Get Volunteer Ready - Encouraging long-term volunteering
Whilst the Big Help Out campaign is focused on volunteering over the bank holiday weekend, we want to encourage people to volunteer over a longer period of time, to make volunteering a regular part of your life and to build connections in their communities.
Wessex Community Action knows that there are many small, local organisations that need volunteers beyond Monday 8th May, so we have created our campaign page which also promotes Get Volunteer Ready. There are opportunities on this page that will help you find a range of volunteering opportunities across the county. We hope this will encourage individuals to think about their skills and time, what they care about and where they might like to volunteer.
Wiltshire Together is a great platform for Voluntary Organisations to place their volunteering opportunities in a way that make it clear to potential volunteers, what the roles entail, how many hours are required etc. which helps to match volunteers to the right opportunities that suit their interest and lifestyle. The site is also brilliant for Volunteers to manage their volunteer pledges and log the hours of volunteering that they do. You can then print or export your ‘impact’ (a bit like a social CV) to show how much you have helped the community. This can also be used for job applications, D of E awards or other scenarios where providing evidence that you’ve helped others is beneficial to you.
We are running a series of free training to support this, so if you are looking to volunteer longer term using Wiltshire Together, please see our support page for more information on how to book.
Wessex Community Action is also on hand to help you with any queries you have about becoming a volunteer and are producing resources to support you.
Please see our members page for contact information.
